Located at 11 Oldtown St, Cookstown, Glenngary Takeaway has quickly gained a reputation as a go-to spot for genuine British fish and chips. With an unwavering focus on classic takeout cuisine, this local gem has been warmly received by patrons, particularly for its delightful batter on the cod and perfectly cooked, non-greasy chips.
Many visitors sing praises for the generous portion sizes, although some, like Polly Wallydoodle, express a desire for a few more chips served alongside their fish. This highlights a common theme—while the food is mostly exquisite, the absence of contactless payment, pointed out by Gareth, is the only hiccup in an otherwise stellar experience.
The quality of service also garners accolades. Customers appreciate the diligence of the staff, especially notable in how they ensure every inch of the dish is seasoned to perfection, as illustrated by Los Bones’ experience with salt and vinegar. The warm, friendly atmosphere further enhances the experience, making Glenngary Takeaway a cherished spot for locals and visitors alike.
In conclusion, if you're in Cookstown and craving classic British fare, Glenngary Takeaway is a must-visit destination for great food and heartfelt hospitality.

Reviews for Glenngary Takeaway
Review highlights
Based on 90 reviewsGlenngary Takeaway is widely appreciated for its quality fish and chips, with many customers praising the well-cooked battered cod and perfectly crispy, non-greasy chips. The portion sizes are considered adequate and satisfying. The takeaway is also noted for excellent customer service, with attentive and friendly staff enhancing the overall experience. While the food variety receives positive remarks, a common critique is the absence of contactless payment options, as the establishment remains cash-only. Some patrons also mention a limited availability of chips as a side option with meals. Overall, Glenngary Takeaway stands out as a reliable local chip shop delivering flavorful food and attentive service, despite minor payment method limitations.
Cash only. Chips were great, not greasy. Great feed. Portion size normal.
Excellent fish n chips, great choice of foods served, only down side youd be lucky to get any chips on the side, everyone loves 5 or 6 chips with their fish or sausage!
Really rather good local chip shop. Nothing negative to say about the food or staff. Only issue is the lack of contactless payment, which these days should be available. For me the clincher over which chippy to choose comes down to the fact that here they actually know how to cook french fried onions: they aren't burnt or over crisp, but succulent. So many places mess this up.
The battered Cod was on point, and the chips did not disappoint either. Possibly the best fish and chip's We have had for a number of years. The staff could not have been any better. Highly recommended and appreciated. Thank you.
Fish honestly wasn’t quite to my taste but I asked for “loads” of salt and vinegar and loved the diligence of the server actually coating every square cm of fish and chips! That’s worth 5 stars alone. Really great service and great value.
